WDC July 21 Speaker Kristen Clarke

Join us on Tuesday, July 21, noon. Register Here.

Back by popular demand! Kristen Clarke, President & Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, leads one of the country’s most important national civil rights organizations in the pursuit of equal justice for all. In addition to promoting fair housing and community development, economic justice, equal educational opportunity, criminal justice, and judicial diversity, Ms. Clarke and the Lawyers’ Committee are fierce watchdogs against voter suppression -- an ongoing threat hovering over the 2020 election. That work is especially timely now, when the foundations of our democracy are under assault from powers at home and around the world.

Ms. Clarke has called our current situation “a perfect storm” of pandemic, massive unemployment, and racial injustice. With people in the streets calling for “No Justice, No Peace,” Ms. Clarke and the Lawyers’ Committee are warriors for justice, laying the groundwork for peace by combatting discrimination and fighting for civil rights enforcement on all fronts. “We know the answers to these problems,” she says. “We just need the political will to solve them."

Senator Mark Warner via Zoom

Join us via Zoom on Friday, June 19, at 1:00 pm for a discussion with Senator Mark Warner. Register here . You will receive the Zoom link on the day of the event.

Mark Warner has served as U.S. Senator from Virginia since 2008, following a term as the State’s Governor. In the Senate, he is on the Finance, Banking, Budget, and Rules Committees. He is also vice chair of the Select Committee on Intelligence – a position that draws on his private sector experience in the telecom industry and as a venture capitalist for technology start-ups. In addition to government oversight of tech companies, that position gives him a platform for addressing government’s role in reducing misinformation, election interference, cybersecurity breaches, and other ways technology threatens our democracy.

Come prepared to ask Senator Warner about racial equity and other current issues, as well as his expectations for the Select Committee on Intelligence over the next four years, when – we hope – the Democrats will control the Senate and he will lead that Committee.
