These are difficult times for Democrats, and for anyone committed to civil rights. Instead of bringing people together, the president’s words and deeds strive to split us apart. WDC's February luncheon speaker, Kristen Clarke, has devoted her career to protecting the very rights that are now under attack. Ms. Clarke heads the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (https://lawyerscommittee.org), one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations. Her background includes fighting against voter suppression, police brutality, hate crimes, and human trafficking, as well as working to strengthen our democracy by combatting discrimination faced by African Americans and other groups. She has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and other media outlets, and has written numerous articles and books, including Barack Obama and African American Empowerment: The Rise of Black America's Leadership
