WDC PACE | Summer Newsletter Report

July 28, 2018 Nancy Walker and Barbara Noveau, PACE Co-Chairs
PACE GET OUT THE VOTE v5.png

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, voters across the country will cast ballots for what is being called the most consequential election of our lifetimes.  With a big Blue Wave of Democratic voters, we could – we will – flip the House and the Senate, not to mention State Houses across the county.  FLIP THE CONGRESS

Here in Maryland, we will be electing a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, U.S. Senator, Members of the House of Representatives, State Senators and Delegates, and county officers all over the State.  PUT DEMOCRATS IN ANNAPOLIS

How can Woman’s Democratic Club members be a part of this Blue Wave?  Drawing on the Club’s proud traditions, the Political Activism and Civic Engagement members will be engaging in a variety of ways to elect our Democratic candidates in Maryland this November.  We know that turnout will be key to Democratic victories.  A lesson we sadly learned four years ago, which led to Larry Hogan being elected Governor of Maryland.  We can NOT let this happen again.  GET DEMOCRATS TO TURN OUT

What can you do?  Join PACE.  Come to the Mid-Term Election PACE Committee Meeting on August 21 hosted by PACE Co-Chairs Barbara Noveau and Nancy J. Walker.  Learn about and sign up.  Here are the things PACE will be organizing with our partner groups, Do The Most Good MoCo, and J Walkers Action Group.  (Note that the sign-up form is with DTMG and J Walkers, which allows WDC, DTMG, J Walkers, and other groups to expand our reach, and work more efficiently together.)

CANVASS:  Come knock on doors across Montgomery County – and elsewhere in Maryland.  Talking to voters face-to-face is one of the most powerful ways to persuade people to vote, and to get increased turnout.  Working with the Coordinated Campaign, we will have canvass opportunities to spend lovely weekend afternoons and some weekday evenings knocking on doors.  We will begin knocking on doors starting in August, ramping up in September and October.  SIGN UP TO CANVASS

PHONE BANK:  Join a regular phone bank, hosted by gracious and generous hosts, staffed by well-trained activists, and become part of the larger community.  Making phone calls with others – rather than on your own – has a number of advantages, measurable and not.  When people come together to make phone calls, more calls get made, more voters are contacted.  When people come together, you know you are part of an important community of like-minded folks.  Spend time with old friends, make new ones.  Phone bank schedules for Maryland are in the works.  We need Phone Bank Hosts and Phone Bank Leads – we will provide the training, too.  SIGN UP HERE

TAP INTO VOTERS – TEXT-ADDRESS-PHONE:  We will be adding new multi-level events this election cycle.  We will be putting together a TAP Event – TEXT voters, ADDRESS postcards, and make PHONE calls.  Stay tuned for details.  Expand your activist repertoire.  Click on the Maryland Interest box on the form to SIGN UP TO T-A-P

VOTER REGISTRATION:  Building on decades of experience, WDC’s PACE committee will be working to expand the voter rolls here in Montgomery County.  If you want to become an official Voter Registrar, attend a session organized by the Board of Elections.  Voter Registration activities will be announced in upcoming WDC Weekly Updates.

Your WDC PACE Committee WANTS YOU this election season.  Already an experienced canvasser or phone banker, bring your friends with you.  New to phone banking or canvassing?  Not to worry, we will get you trained up.  Come with family and friends.  Be part of the BIG BLUE WAVE.

More information?  Please feel free to contact PACE Co-Chairs Barbara Noveau (bnoveau@gmail.com) or Nancy J. Walker (nancy@jwalkersactiongroup.org).
