Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is the first Democrat to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in almost 50 years. She won the moderate central Virginia district in 2018, defeating Republican David Brat.

Rep. Spanberger is a strong advocate of bipartisan approaches to foreign policy and national security. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, she recently joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to call for the U.S. to combat COVID-19 around the world, not just at home, and has warned that leaving the World Health Organization would diminish our international influence, especially relative to China.

She began her public service career as a federal agent investigating money laundering and narcotics cases, and subsequently worked as a CIA case officer. In the private sector, she helped postsecondary institutions diversify their student bodies and increase graduation rates.
