Many of you have said 2020 is the most important election in our lifetime. If you’re interested in volunteering and getting engaged in helping to win the White House and flip the senate in 2020, this is the one event you won’t want to miss!
Guest speakers include Eva Lewis, Regional Director of the Democratic National Committee, Matt Caffrey, Eastern Field Director, Swing Left and two candidates running for state office in Virginia this November.
Join WDC for our September luncheon with Congressman John Sarbanes has represented Maryland’s Third District since 2006. Congressman Sarbanes is Chair of the Democracy Reform Task Force, and is leading the fight in Congress to break candidate dependence on corporate PACs and special interests. He is the author of HR1, the For the People Act, which E.J. Dionne of the Washington Post called, “Perhaps the most comprehensive political-reform proposal ever considered by our elected representatives.” HR1 passed the House on March 8, 2019, and aims to empower American voters, strengthen our nation’s ethics laws and fix our broken campaign finance system. The Congressman serves on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, as well as the House Oversight and Reform Committee which is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has authority to investigate the subjects within the Committee’s legislative jurisdiction as well as “any matter” within the jurisdiction of the other standing House Committees.
The purpose of this discussion is to introduce attendees to the inner workings of the Maryland Democratic Party, explain what it does and how it does it, and help people understand why they need to be aware of, and involved with, the State Party.
Panelists: MDP Chair Maya Rockeymoore Cummings; MDP Executive Director Ben Smith; MDP Executive Committee member Arthur Edmonds; MoCo Democratic Party Member Marie Mapes, who will discuss how the Coordinated Campaign works; and Aruna Miller, Chair, MDP Women’s Diversity Council. Moderator: Former MoCo Party Chair Karen Britto. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
All are welcome. No charge. Park free in the Council Office Building garage. Metro-accessible.
