Although only 25 when he died, Tommy Raskin had a sophisticated, bone-deep commitment to those in need, with a particular emphasis on animals and the global poor. The WDC Board decided to honor Tommy's memory through an annual speaker series focused on the issues that motivated his social justice work. Please join WDC to welcome Congressman Jim McGovern as the first in our Tommy Raskin speaker series.
As a long-time champion of global human rights, Congressman McGovern exemplifies the values Tommy held dear. Among other accomplishments, he is the Democratic Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission. He co-chairs the House Hunger Caucus, and created the George McGovern - Robert Dole Food for Education program, which provides nutritious meals in a school setting to nearly 9 million of the world’s poorest children. He has represented the people of Massachusetts in Congress since 1996.
Tommy’s older sister Hannah Raskin, a director of the Tommy Raskin Memorial Fund for People and Animals, will introduce Congressman McGovern.
