On Feb 8 at 1:00 pm, The Marshall Project president Carroll Bogert will join us to discuss creating and sustaining the urgency for criminal justice reform, which her organization seeks to achieve through fair, transparent, and effective journalism. As President-elect Biden takes office amid great turmoil, his stated priorities include reforms of policing, the death penalty for federal crimes, bail reform, and eliminating mandatory minimum sentences. Ms. Bogert will share her views on the most pressing of these and other issues. Before joining The Marshall Project, Ms. Bogert served for 18 years as deputy director of Human Rights Watch, running global media operations, and before that as a foreign correspondent for Newsweek Magazine, based in Moscow, Hong Kong and Beijing, covering the fall of the Soviet Union, the Tiananmen Square protests, and the economic rise of Asia. The Marshall Project has garnered a remarkable slew of awards over its short life including a Pulitzer Prize, Polk, Peabody, Murrow and National Magazine awards for its non-partisan investigative journalism and explanatory journalism. After these past years of journalism being under siege this commitment to truth-telling is more vital than ever.
