January Happy Hour | Resolve to Stay Involved: #2020 Is Coming

View Album Here

“Resolve to Stay Involved: #2020 is coming” set the stage for WDC’s January 10th Happy Hour.  We began the New Year with live music and an enthusiastic crowd of 70+ members and guests anxious to learn about Ranked Choice Voting.

Why focus on Ranked Choice Voting now? State Senator Cheryl Kagan (D 14) and Delegate Eric Luedtke (D 17) will introduce enabling legislation that would allow Montgomery County to consider implementing an alternative voting system (e.g., ranked choice voting.)  To learn about this potential change in voting method—and to have fun—attendees were issued ballots containing six song choices. Each person ranked the songs from one to six.

WDC member Rita Marie Powell performed the winning song, Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” on her pink guitar, with Happy Hour attendees joining in on the chorus.  Democrats know how to sing, particularly on behalf of workers!

Special shout outs to our program organizers and presenters: WDC Board Member Lynn Olsen; FairVote’s Ruben Lebron; FairVote Co-Founder and Represent Women Executive Director Cynthia Richie Terrell; and civil rights attorney Stephen Mortellaro, who works with RCV Montgomery.
