"Everything You Wanted to Know About Climate Change but Were Afraid to Ask"
The first WDC Community Education forum of 2020 on January 11th, “Everything You Need to Know About Climate Change but Were Afraid to Ask”, was a huge success. A capacity crowd of almost 70 people heard from three local experts: Joyce Tuten, a chemistry teacher at Clarksburg High School, a NOAA trained climate steward, and a member of the Climate Reality Project Leadership Corp, explained the science of how greenhouse gasses cause global warming and some of the effects we are already seeing. Mike Tidwell, Director of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, talked about what Montgomery County is doing and some of the bills that the Maryland General Assembly will consider to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state. Dr. Ed Maibach, Director of the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, noted that the percent of Americans who are “alarmed” about climate change has tripled over the past 5 years, and encouraged attendees to speak up, persist, and act together to effect needed changes. If you missed this fascinating forum, you can see Ed Maibach's slide presentation here, Joyce Tuten's slide presentation here, and watch the video (courtesy of Scott Webber) in the YouTube link below. There is also a handy list of resources and links to local climate organizations.
